EMILY HOBBS is the fourth generation of her family to become a lawyer, and with two judges and the head of the 2011 Rugby World Cup standing before her, she's aware there are some big shoes to fill. Converse Replica Ms Hobbs, 24, was among 87 other young lawyers admitted to the bar in the High Court at Wellington yesterday. Her father is lawyer Jock Hobbs, a former All Black and the man credited with successfully bringing the 2011 Rugby World Cup to New Zealand. Her grandfather Michael Hobbs, 75, retired as a district court judge two years ago. Her great-grandfather, the late Alan Hobbs, was also a judge, while her uncle and a great-uncle were lawyers. "You'd think I would have done something else," Ms Hobbs said. "It's a little bit daunting following two judges and a family full of lawyers, but it has its positives. I've got so much experience behind me, there's such an advantage in having that much support." Her father - diagnosed with non- a.te leukaemia four years ago - had to renew his practising licence to don a robe and wig and officially recommend her to the bar. "It was special to have Dad there. He's always been really busy with law and rugby, but he always made time for us. Lens Shirt "I've had a busy time at university doing a double degree and he would always make sure I took breaks." Mr Hobbs, 49, was an All Black flanker between 1983 and 1986 and is credited with persuading former prime minister Helen Clark to put forward New Zealand's successful World Cup bid. Now chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union and recipient of the New Zealand Order of Merit, his own admission to the bar lacked the pomp and ceremony of his daughter's.
